Facebook had to face intense criticism regarding no control over the spread of fake news soon after the United States 2016 elections. In response, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook is working on new measures to stop or reduce the spread of this false information. While Facebook is still working on implementing those measures, there is one thing that you can do to help fight the fake and misleading stories on the internet. You can always report it to Facebook.
While many people know that the graphic or pornographic content can be reported, they don’t realize that the fake and misleading news can also be reported. Here’s how you can do it.
- Whenever you come across fake or misleading news, click the “v” menu button on the top-right corner of the post.
2. Choose “Report Post” from the pop-up menu.
3. Select “I think it shouldn’t be on Facebook.”
4. Choose “It’s a false story.”
Voila! You just reported the post to Facebook and played your part in stopping the spread of fake and misleading news. After reporting, you get the option to hide all future posts from the page or person. You also get the option to permanently block that page or person as well.
